INSTRUCTIONS FOR ERCP
(print this page out to keep it handy)

Please read the pamphlet regarding your ERCP.

If you are taking insulin, check your glucose level in the morning. Take only one-half of your usual long acting dose (NPH, Ultralente). Please contact the physician managing your Diabetes for specific instructions.

Take all heart and blood pressure medications with a sip of water on the morning of your procedure. Do NOT take diuretics (water pills).

Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, or similar medications for at least seven days prior to your procedure. Tylenol (acetaminophen) use is acceptable.

If you are taking blood thinners such as Warfarin, Coumadin or Heparin, please notify your physician at least seven days prior to the procedure.

Please ensure that someone is available to drive you home following your procedure. In the event that you are admitted to Recovery Care Center and required to stay overnight, please bring an overnight bag.

If you are scheduled for a morning procedure:

Do not eat anything after midnight the night prior to your procedure.

Take your medications with a sip of water at least one hour prior to your procedure.

If you are scheduled for an afternoon procedure:

You may eat a clear, liquid breakfast before 9:00 a.m. Following this, please refrain from eating and drinking.

Take your medications with a sip of water anytime until one hour prior to your procedure.
