Esophageal Manometry Study (print this page out to keep it handy) The Esophageal Manometry procedure is a study of the muscle contraction and coordination of your esophagus. This study is often performed before and after medical or surgical treatment of the esophagus. The study is performed by placing a small tube-like probe through the nose and into the stomach. The tube is connected to a computer displaying the amount of pressure placed on the tube in different sections of the esophagus. The tube is slowly extracted and pressure readings are taken during certain time intervals. You will be asked to swallow water periodically throughout the study to examine how muscles interact.
